So what is a landscape photograph?

It could be a photograph that captures the essence of an environment, whether it’s a broad sweeping vista or an intimate detail that defines an location. And, of course, it is supposed to be striking and to some degree alluring. when considering a landscape many often think of the iconic landscapes of exotic remote regions of the world. There is, after all, a reason those exotic places are iconic. little can equal the beauty and impact of places like yellowstone or iceland!

but I’ve also found landscapes are even more abundant in “normal” locations. I always strive to capture not only the spirit of the location, but also the imagination of the viewer. I love to evoke in the viewer the same emotion and awe I felt at the time i took the photograph. It doesn’t matter if the photo is an all encompassing shot of the Rockies or an intimate close up of a single drop of dew on a leaf of a forest plant.

this gallery includes both. how do i choose which to include? i ask myself, “would i love to see this on my wall?” If the answer is “yes”, it makes the cut.
